Rehearsal #6, July 23: "My Cat Pooped on My Desk?!? Ok..."

We are gearing up for our performance this Saturday, July 28!  We will be performing at the Lansdowne Farmers Market, which is at 30 N. Lansdowne Ave, in Lansdowne (of course!).  Here's a link to their website:

https://www.lansdownefarmersmarket.com

All performers, please arrive at 9:30 am with your violin, ukulele, bass, and/or random percussion instrument.  We will be setting up a sound system, doing a sound check, and hope to start performing at 10 am.

We will be recording our live set!  And taking band photos.

Here is one last video to practice along with, if you need, the Lumineers' "Ho Hey":

See you on Saturday!

Rehearsal #5, July 16: "Second Direction!"

Folks, we are getting close to the end of camp!  Just one more rehearsal before our big show at the Farmer's Market, and that will be for only 3 of our 5 performing band members.  The other two are fairly well set with their parts, I believe, and are ready to go on the 28th!

Tonight, we reviewed almost every song, and fine-tuned some things, and made arrangements and cuts and harmony decisions.  And, we have a band name!  (See this post's title)

If anyone wants to practice at home, just look at the previous posts, where you'll find the videos to all of the songs.  The only ones we won't perform are the Elton John song, and possibly the Beatles song--we kind of skipped over that tonight, oh well.

I'm so looking forward to our performance!

Rehearsal #4, July 9: "We Are All Here and We All Love Goldfish Crackers!"

It was a very loud rehearsal with all 6 band members in the room--but we had a ton of fun and even got to eat Goldfish (thanks Kari)!

One band member who had only played ukulele before got a chance to try the electric guitar; except she is an upside-down lefty player so that increased the difficulty level.  Just like Jimi Hendrix--check out his upside-down guitar skills:

But as always, she rocked.

We have some amazing vocals with the 6 band members!  We're going to iron out our harmonies and sound really professional at our performance on July 28.  That's just in a few weeks--so exciting!

Here are our selections for the week:

"Three Little Birds":

and "Youth":

Next week we'll be almost at full capacity with 5 band members.  We'll miss you Kari, even more than we'll miss your Goldfish crackers!

Rehearsal #3, July 2: "It's So Ridiculously Hot But We Are in Air Conditioning! Whoopee!"

We are rehearsing week after week, and we are really starting to sound good!  People are learning their vocal lines, and people are remembering their previously learned drum/bass/guitar/keyboard parts, and we are rocking out!  Most importantly, we're having new experiences with new instruments and having lots of fun with ensemble playing.

Next week we have every musician signed up for camp all in the same rehearsal, and that's going to be a big, fun, sound.  Yay!  I'm excited, can you tell?

This week we worked on:

"Free Fallin'":

and "She's Leaving Home":

And, we are indeed, in the middle of a heat wave.  But it's comfy in the studio!  Thanks Jeff!

Rehearsal #2, June 25: "Can They Hear Us Over There?"

Our second rehearsal was a cozy 3 band members.  Everyone got a little tutorial on the drum set from Mason, and everyone did really well.  One band member lamented her lack of coordination, but I'm not too convinced.  We'll see what happens when/if she gets assigned a drum part.

Another band member is bravely playing the bass, and playing well, after initially feeling intimidated.  Those are some big, fat strings!  They hurt your fingers after a while.

Of course we reviewed the songs from last week--we're making progress!  And then we threw two new ones in the mix, which are the following:

"Billie Jean":

"No Excuses":

At the end of rehearsal a lot of other musicians showed up to use the other rehearsal studios.  They were rocking out, and we could hear them, and someone realized that they might be able to hear us!  One of the guys from the other band told me that we sounded good.  Yay!

More next week!

Rehearsal #1, June 18: "My Mouth Hurts and It's Impeding My Pizza Enjoyment"

What a fun rehearsal!  We learned two songs and made a stab at writing one.

Here are a couple of YouTube videos in case anyone wants to familiarize themselves with the songs and/or practice.

"Someone Saved My Life Tonight":

"Un Poco Loco":
We will work on these songs again next week, and then learn two more!

Band name, anyone?  Something that does not have the word "Joy" in it?!?
